Winter Place Mat Pillows

Back in December when I went to the Blogger Christmas Social we were asked to bring a handmade gift and I brought these place mat pillows.

I was at Target and saw these simple wintery place mats made from burlap so I bought 2. I think they were only $4 a piece (not super cheap but way cheaper than buying a pillow).

I didn't want anything Christmas'y but more Wintery so it could be used longer.

I wanted to make them a bit more 'handmade' so I cut out a stencil with my Silhouette using vinyl and stenciled on some wintery words.

I loved the metallic coppery color I found.

After the stenciling and paint was dried I then ripped open a 3 inch gap on the edge and stuffed it with poly fill (at Hob Lob a huge bag costs like $3, I think I used 1 bag for both pillows). Then I just hand stitched up the hole. Voila! A Pillow made from a Place Mat, hence "Place Mat Pillow"

(like our fancy new faux fur blanket from Restoration Hardware that cost $100, my husband has a vendor at work that always spends a ridiculous amount of money on the Christmas gifts they give to clients, that could be a whole blog post by its self. PS, I would never have paid $100 for that thing)

I wrapped them up with a bit of brown paper some brown twine and added a snow flake and a jingle bell! I thought the wrapping was super cute.

Place mat pillows are such great and easy handmade gift because there are always new and seasonal place mats out in the stores. Easy and totally can be personalized.

Baby Boy Giftwrap

I had two friends have baby boys within the last couple weeks. I needed to deliver baby gifts and I wanted to have really cute wrapping.

I used my 2/1.00 brown gift bags (love these because they can be dressed up however and for any occasion).
I hot glued buttons onto the front on the bags.
I got some scrapbooking paper and used my Martha Stewart Punch for the edges.
I distressed the cards a bit.
Used some twine to tie them onto the bags.

I thought they turned out really cute.

My Wishlist

These are a few things I have on my wish list or things that I see around the internet that I would love to own one day!
Hot Rollers (I get so sick of standing around my curling iron, I want to stick the rollers in and walk away)
Look at this Beautiful Camera Bag! I already got my new dSLR camera for Christmas, This would make me stylish with my new camera!
I want this for my phone!
Pretty jewelry organizer
Love this pendant
I don't know if I could pull off this hat, but isn't it exquisite!
Camera Strap for the new camera
I need a pair of these Urn's for my front yard
Beautiful pillows for my ugly brown leather couches
These Rachel Ray spoons that rest on the edge of your pots and pans so you dont have a dirty counter.
These boots are pretty cute, although these might not be the exact ones I want...Boots are so "In" right now...I want a pair that are no heals and cute like these ones. I love the detail on these.

DIY Cake Stand

These Cake Stands are all over Blogland but I found this particular cake stand instructions over at Intimate Weddings But there are many others.
I can't find the one I originally saw...It had a blue plate with flowers on it and it had a glass dome...Has anyone else seen this one? If so please tell me where it is! It's driving me crazy.

Here’s what you need:

  • vintage plate
  • glass candlestick
  • crystal drawer pull (this is optional)
  • epoxy glue (slow drying if you are making more than one vintage cake stand)
  • ruler
  • Sharpie
  • Popsicle stick
  • Q-tip
  • something to mix your epoxy in (I used a recycled aluminum tray)

Get creative and use any plate and any base such as glass, candlestick, etc. use and dome or no dome. Would make a great mother's day gift or christmas gift.
